It has been 9 years since I began iggyROCKS! From the beginning I never dreamed it would take off and have as many listeners and artists who have come to see iggyROCKS! as a value. Early in my Christian life I found that Christian/faith based music often helped me get through tough times. God used the music of Larry Norman, Degarmo and Key and many others to help me realize that God would also accept me. Yet, over the years something has changed with the Christian Music Industry. It has become just that… an industry! Instead of being true to it’s ministry calling many small venues have sold out with hopes to reach a larger audience. Yet, instead of reaching out and building up others, many stations have bowed to pressure and dumbied down… even watering down their message to not upset the owners of the stations in the big music industry. No longer are they able to freely express our faith in Christ without the threat that someone may pull the plug.
That is why it is important to support small independent stations like iggyROCKS! It is stations like us who play music you will not hear on the mainstream radio. We want to reclaim Christian music back for Jesus. We are not a multi-million dollar station. We do not do promotions where you can schmooze on a cruise with “celebrity” artists… we simply desire to get the message out. While many of the huge stations are now forced to cut their cost by millions, we here have simply carried on with a budget of $500 a year. All the money we make goes straight back into ministry be it free advertising for orphanages in Africa and Haiti or sending packages to different ministries. We would love to do more of this… yet with the exception of one year where a generous listener gave $300 and a few others generously gave $20 here and there, we have had to pay out of pocket to keep the station going. Now I am not threatening anything, but we need help. I am seriously considering closing down iggyROCKS! this year. This is our 9th year and we seem to be growing larger and larger yet our budget remains the same as small as it is. Yet, it becomes harder each year to justify spending out of pocket as we do have a family to support. Please do not let the industry win. We need to have an outlet that plays the music that mainstream Christian radio will not. Please consider praying for us and if God so leads support this ministry… it is for you… it is so we all can spread the Gospel.
Sonia V… the S~Girl is back with “Oh Sweet Tragedy – anthems from the ashes” I just received the newest release “ Begin Again” from the CD and it rocks! Canadian artist Hannah Speirs is someone to watch in the future. She has a soft sweet sound and her songs express a deepness and somewhat sweet sorrow yet never leaving one without hope. You can buy her music at iTunes and CD Baby as well as listen to her on iggyROCKS! or her Myspace page.
